stds-802-16: presentation at last week's ITU Telecom World 2003 Forum

I have posted as contributions the slides, and accompanying manuscript, from the talk I gave at last week's ITU Telecom World 2003 Forum in Geneva:

IEEE Standard 802.16 for Global Broadband Wireless Access
 Paper: IEEE C802.16-03/14 http://ieee802.org/16/docs/03/C80216-03_14.pdf
 Talk: IEEE S802.16-03/14 http://ieee802.org/16/docs/03/S80216-03_14.pdf

There was great interest in this talk. It was an invited paper in a session on "The Future of Wireless." This was the only session of the week on wireless technology and was chaired by ITU-R Director Valery Timofeev. Attendance at the session was standing room only. The Forum included several other talks on 802.16 also.

Although participation at this year's ITU Telecom World was down significantly from the previous edition (in 1999), it was still a large event (55,000 attendees, according to one report I read), with representatives from nearly every country. I found that the interest in 802.16 was huge. I spent a very busy week talking with operators, regulators, vendors, analysts, and ITU staff. I had a very positive feeling throughout the week.

P.S. I addition to the Forum talks, I appreciated an article on "BWA in Africa" that was published in the conference's daily "newspaper". It's available here: <http://www.maravedis-bwa.com/BWAinAfrica.doc>.
