IP-OFDMA Evaluation Group Coordination Meeting
13-14 March 2007 Orlando, Florida, USA in conjunction with IEEE 802.16 Session #48 |
Background
In November 2006, IEEE submitted contribution 8F/1065 (IEEE L802.16-06/031r1)
to ITU-R Working Party 8F proposing the inclusion of a new "IP-OFDMA"
radio interface, based on IEEE Std 802.16, in ITU-R Rec. M.1457.
On 14 February 2007, ITU-R issued Circular Letter 8/LCCE/153 (IEEE L802.16-07/008):
"Announcement of the submission of a candidate radio interface
technology for consideration for inclusion as the sixth IMT-2000
terrestrial radio interface in Recommendation ITU-R M.1457." That
letter announces the IEEE proposal and the initiation of an associated
web page on "Proposed sixth terrestrial radio interface for IMT-2000 in Rec. ITU-R M.1457" <http://www.itu.int/ITU-R/go/ip-ofdma>. The letter outlines the procedure to be followed and invites participation by
Evaluation Groups. The letter notes that:
To facilitate work needed between
regular Working Party 8F meetings, including any potential joint
industry meetings of evaluation groups, external organizations may wish
to consider acting as the hosting organizations for any such evaluation
group meetings. Such meetings should be arranged at mutually convenient
times and locations suitable for promoting attendance and furthering
the process within Circular Letter 8/LCCE/95.
IP-OFDMA Evaluation Group Coordination Meeting
In a letter of 18 January (IEEE L80216-07/003), the IEEE 802.16 Working on Broadband Wireless Access offered to host a meeting of evaluation groups on 13-14 March 2007, in
conjunction with the upcoming IEEE 802.16 Session #48 in
Orlando, FL, USA. It noted that technical experts would be available to answer questions regarding the IP-OFDMA
proposal and that evaluation groups would be welcome to exchange information."
This IP-OFDMA Evaluation Group Coordination Meeting took place
within 802.16 Working Group's "ITU Liaison Group" and was chaired by Dr. José M. Costa.
The location was Grand Sierra G in the Caribe Royale Hotel.
Meeting Report
The meeting completed a meeting report prior to its adjournment. The IEEE 802 Executive Committee agreed to submit this document as a contribution to WP 8F.
Meeting Agenda
The agenda began with introductions and presentations regarding the IP-OFDMA proposal and its evaluation. Subsequently, time was
allocated for discussion of evaluation processes and findings.
Attendance
Forty people attended.
Registration
Participants at the IP-OFDMA Evaluation Group Coordination Meeting were required
to be registered as attendees of the March 2007 IEEE 802 Plenary. Such registration could be be completed in two ways:
- If you wish to participate only in the IP-OFDMA Evaluation Group
Coordination Meeting, you are welcome to do so at no charge, provided that you register no later than 7 March by submitting the IP-OFDMA Evaluation Group Coordination Meeting Registration Form. In this case, please
note that you will receive a registration badge entitling you to attend
all IEEE 802 meetings during the week. However, if you choose this
option, you will not be entitled to "participation" credit toward your membership
in the IEEE 802.16 Working Group. If you are a member or regular
participant of any IEEE 802 Working Group, or if you wish to become a
member of the IEEE 802.16 Working Group, then you should choose method
(b) below. Also, if you miss the March 7 deadline, you may still participate by following method (b) below.
- If you wish to participate in IEEE 802 activities during the IEEE
802 Plenary Session, you should register through IEEE 802 (see IEEE 802 LMSC Plenary Session Information) AND provide notice by email of your intent to attend.
Note the 23 February deadline for discounted pre-registration. With
this option, participation in the IP-OFDMA Evaluation Group
Coordination Meeting will be credited, for membership purposes, as
participation in the IEEE 802.16 Working Group.
