[802SEC] new 802.16 Vice Chair

Dear SEC:

At its Session #23 last week, the 802.16 Working Group elected a new Vice Chair: Carl Eklund <mailto:carl.eklund@nokia.com>. The election fills a vacancy due to the resignation of Paul Struhsaker. The term runs through the end of the March 2004 802 Plenary.

Carl is highly qualified for this position. He has been a member of 802.16 since July 1999, participating in all but one of the 802.16 sessions, plus two special interim-interims. He chaired the Task Group that developed the base 802.16 MAC. He served as editor of the recently-published IEEE Std 802.16 and is doing the same for the 1802.16.1 and 1802.16.2 projects.

According to the LMSC Rules (5.1.2), "LMSC Working Group Chairs and Vice Chairs shall be elected by the Working Group and confirmed by the LMSC Executive Committee." Therefore, I'd like Carl's confirmation to be on the consent agenda for the March opening SEC meeting.

Regards,

Roger

P.S. The session was duly authorized to hold the election. The election was originally scheduled for the Kauai Plenary, but it was postponed by a motion "To table the election of vice chair until the next meeting in January, Session #23." Also at the Kauai session, a motion was passed "To authorize the 802.16 Working Group to carry out business at its Plenary Meetings during Session #23, even in the absence of formal quorum." By the way, a majority of the 802.16 members attended Session #23.
