Re: [802SEC] March Plenary Registration

Hi John,

According to Jon’s earlier message (see attached)  IEEE reset all the passwords and Dawn, who was the owner the page missed updating her password to the new convention.  So currently, no one has access to that page.   Fortunately, Lisa was able to redirect the page pointed to by the  bad link to the right page as a temporary workaround.    As Jon suggested you will need to get with Luigi on Monday to get the page ownership transferred to you so you can make the changes which Roger has suggested.   I hope this gets us all back on track.

Thanx, Buzz

I agree, a one or two week extension makes sense. When will http://www.ieee802.org/meeting/index.html be updated with a direct link for the plenary information and registration? Currently it is showing only the link for the January wireless interim.

John,

You have a reasonable request.  I am not sure what it will take to delay the early registration deadline close, but I think an extension of one week should be sufficient.

I would like to get Jon's input on this request as well.

I believe the deadline should be extended, as there is clearly a webpage issue, and I do not know if I will be able to get this issue resolved and register as I will be traveling home tomorrow.  I believe given the 802.3 interim meeting this week – many others will be in a similar situation.

There was a major change to the IEEE site last fall,
They sent several e-mails about updating the site and needing the owners to sign in and update the passwords.
I would suspect that we are victim to the update.
We can get Luigi to help reset the rights appropriately on Monday I am sure.
I would offer that John DAmbrosia is the correct person, and that we can put

in the suggested Changes that Roger pointed out will minimize the number of times we have to work on this page.
I also believe that "Meeting" should be changed to "Session" throughout.
I am out of money,
Jon

My two cents is that John should fully own the page. I don't think it should

be a maintenace issue, since the pointers are now static (rather than date-dependent, as they were in the old days). In other words, we just need links to <http://802world.org/plenary> and <http://802world.org/wireless>. The maintenance issues are now pushed off to 802world.org, where they are being handled nicely.

They should be able to assign ownership as needed. I like the idea of you

Buzz,
I have not changed the access password.
I am confused by Dawn's statement that she says she does not maintain the
page, as she is listed as the owner of the file.

I have tried to rename the file, but do not have permission to change the
file.

If Dawn is not maintaining the file - then who made the Oct 15, 2012
changes? I did not.

Hi Dawn, It is actually John D'Ambrosia that is owner of the IEEE-802 site and who may have changed the access password. I think he should be the one
to make the changes if you can instruct him on what changes are necessary,
or he can choose to allow you access to the Meetings page for modifications so that you can keep the information up to date. Either way, we need to get
the page updated to present the right information to our attendees.

I really liked Roger's suggestion that we have separate lists for Plenary
Session Information and Interim Session Information. I have occasionally
grabbed the wrong link myself so I do understand the problem.

So please work with John to achieve the necessary fixes and get us back to
Happy Camper status.

Good afternoon All,

We are sorry for any inconvenience. At this time, we are unable to access
this page on the IEEE 802 website and update the meeting information for the
March Plenary Session in Orlando.

We have tried to contact Luigi at IEEE for assistance, as our password has
been denied. We do not maintain this site, however we should have access to
post the current Plenary and Interim Sessions. We are hoping to get this
problem fixed as soon as possible. In the meantime, we have extended the
registration deadline to Friday, February 1.

In the future, we will indicate only a link to the current session.

Registrations for the March Plenary Session session are continuing at a
rapid rate.

Thank you, Dawn

Hi Roger,

I think the issue is that when the link 'IEEE 802 Plenary/Interim

information' from the IEEE 802 home page <http://www.ieee802.org/> takes you to the URL <http://www.ieee802.org/meeting/index.html> which is titled 'IEEE
802 Meeting Information'. As Pat has pointed out the only 'Meeting
Information & Registration' link on that page reads 'IEEE 802 Wireless
Interim Session - January 2013' although if you click on that link it
actually takes you to the May 2013 Wireless Interim Session registration.
There is no link on the IEEE 802 Home Page to the
<http://802world.org/plenary> URL you mention.

Best regards,

I have no objection to an extension, but I have to say that I've been
mystified by the problem reports.

There are two places on the page that link to Plenary info at
<http://802world.org/plenary>. One is labelled:
Future Plenary Meeting Schedule (HTML) and the other is labelled:
Future Sessions

Both of these buttons are working.

There is also a link to the wireless interim info page
<http://802world.org/wireless>. I don't think that is harmful, but it
appears to be causing confusion. Perhaps the text label on the link should
be something like "IEEE 802 Wireless Interim Information Page", and perhaps
it should be moved down into the list below. And there is no need to
reference the meeting date; that just makes it a maintenance item.

Roger
