Re: [802SEC] 2018 802 Plenary update for the EC call today

EC,

I have a meeting conflict this morning, which I cannot get out of, so I will miss the EC call today.

Sorry,

Steve

Subject: [802SEC] 2018 802 Plenary update for the EC call today

All-

Sorry I can not make the call today. I am in route to Europe. Rick and/or Pat will stand it.  Brief update on the November 2018 Asian Plenary. Out of the much longer list I reported on in July, I am currently pursuing what I hope will turn into two very reasonably priced options.

Option 1 is Suntec in Singapore.  Suntec is completely revamped and is an awesome facility.  I got pricing for the Sept 2015 interim which was very good.  What really made it attractive is they were willing to throw in all the AV including projectors.  F&B costs for coffee breaks is very reasonable and there is an excellent food court in the building so no need to do lunches. The only reason we are not considering this for the Interim next year is the Formula 1 race starts later in the week and it would make getting hotels and getting around nearly impossible.  I have asked them to give us a quote for the Plenary instead for Nov 2018. I should have those numbers by San Antonio.  Hotel wise, there are plenty of affordable options depending on how many stars one wants so we would not be stuck with a $400/night place unless that is what someone wanted.  No block would be recommended at this point. Better to spread out, though I am looking into one hotel group that has a variety of properties all across the city to if any special deals are possible.

Option 2 is the Ritz/JWM in Kuala-Lumpur. They operate very much like that combo does in the US. Good meeting space and early numbers look good, plus the local convention bureau would kick in between $30k-$40k.  Also targeting San Antonio for more detail

Other:  I mentioned it briefly in one earlier email, but I will just mention it again, that I will be in Prague the week after next and on my dance card is to check out the convention center and any other properties that may be big enough to hold us.  I will let you know what I find in November.

Have a good call.

Bob
