Re: [802SEC] CORRECTION NEEDED FOR: April 2017 IEEE-SA Newswire

Jonathan -while you're at it, could you make sure that staff fix the mixup on 802.3bz (2.5G/5GBASE-T) and 802.3br (traffic) - the labels and links are crossed up down in the get802 section.

Geoff,

Thank you for your excellent observation skills and sharing this information with us.

I agree that this is meant to refer to 802.21 and 802.21.1 and have shared this with the IEEE-SA Marketing staff for correction.

Paul-

There needs to be a correction sent to the Standards Association regarding the recent mailing of the SA-Newswire.
Given that it is an "all 802" error and the extent to which it is featured,
I think the correction should come from you.

In the 3rd line it says:
"This standard is part of the IEEE 802.2.1™ revision project"
which, of course, it is not.
There is no IEEE 802.2 standard, it has been withdrawn.
There is not now, nor has there ever been an IEEE 802.2.1 standard,
thus it is not being revised and (I assume) neither has the term "802.2.1" been trademarked.

I assume that this is the result of a typographical error and should have read:
"This standard is part of the IEEE 802.21™ revision project"

(but I am not an 802.21 expert)

Best regards,

Geoff

IEEE 802.21.1™-2017, Standard for Local and metropolitan area networks-- Part 21.1: Media Independent Services

Interworking between IEEE 802® networks and other networks is crucial to the satisfactory performance of mobile devices. This standard is part of the IEEE 802.2.1™ revision project, by which handover services specifications will be transferred from IEEE 802.21™ to IEEE 802.21.1™. This split will result in more practical use of the standard since not all use cases require all functionalities in IEEE 802.21™-2008.
