Status of Project IEEE 802.11 APF Ad-Hoc Group

Access Point Functionality

APF AHC Formation Approved September 2004, APF AHC will close at end of March 2005 Plenary
Objective: Create submission, Take submission (10-20 pages) to TGm
    Nov04 – Jan 05 – Develop Initial Text
    January 17-21 – Discuss, Refine Initial Text
    March 13-18  - TGma submission, Full WG review as part of TGma draft review

Objective

Provide a better description of data flow in an AP – similar to figure in Clause 7.1.3.1.
Provide clarification between AP functions & AP devices
Enumerate the AP abstract functional blocks within an AP device
Provide a description of AP functions
Provide details on the integration function in an AP
Address questions about Distribution System and its associated services (portal, DSS, etc.)

The intent is that informative descriptions be provided. Any normative functionality must fall within the TGm scope of
 “minor new functionality to address technical corrections”, and “define AP behavior that is hinted at in the existing
standard but not defined.”

Achievements

The main achievements of this meeting were

March 18th - APF AHC officially closes at end of March 2005 WG meeting.
Further discussion of APF related topics will continue in TGma.
