IEEE P802.11-TASK GROUP BD (NGV) MEETING UPDATE

Status of Project IEEE P802.11bd

Task Group Leadership

Background

802.11p is matured and robust for DSRC applications.However,802.11 PHY and MAC has evolved after 802.11p amendments with many mature technologies (e.g. LDPC, STBC etc).There is a requirement to adopt recent 802.11 technologies for new V2X applications, e.g. for higher throughput applications, and/or better reliability/efficiency, and/or extended range. In Mar 2018, the NGV SG was formed to develop the PAR and CSD for an enhanced V2X technology while keeping backward compatibility with 802.11p. The PAR and CSD was approved by IEEE-SA in Dec 2018. Accordingly, the project IEEE 802.11 Task Group BD was formed to develop the standard amendment for the next generation v2x technologies.

Achievement

• The IEEE SASB has approved IEEE P802.11bd D8.0 for publish preparation during IEEE SASB meeting in Dec 2022.
• The TGbd has completed the majority of its work.
• 802.11 WG approved TGbd minutes for Nov plenary session and there's no TGbd meeting slot or teleconference planned in Jan 2023.

Nov 2022

Achievement

• The 4th IEEE SA Ballot for D7.0 started on Sep 21 and closed on Sep 30. One comment was received and resolved.
• The 5th IEEE SA Ballot for D8.0 started on Oct 4 and closed on Oct 14, with 96% approval rate and no comment received.
• EC approved TGbd report and forwarded D8.0 to RevCom.
• TGbd arragned one meeting slot during Nov plenary week to announce status and award plan

• All CRs for the 2nd SA Ballot were approved and D6.0 was released.
• The SA Recirculation Ballot for 11bd D6.0 started from Aug 16 and closed on Aug 30, with 94% approval rate and 4 comments collected.
• CRs for the 3rd SA Ballot were approved during Sep sessions and D7.0 was released after Sep sessions
• A 10-day SA Ballot started from Sep 21 and will close on Sep 30
• WG approved the request to EC for conditionally forwarding 11bd draft to RevCom with corresponding report

• TGbd approved resolutons to rest CIDs of LB 259 and comments from MDR report.
• TGbd approved the generation of D4.0 and the WG approved a 15-day WG LB recirculation.
• The WG approved 11bd CSD affirmation.
• The WG approved 11bd report to EC on Conditional SA BA and EC approved 11bd Conditional SA BA.
• A 15-day WG recirculation on 11bd D4.0 was conducted and all comments were resolved, which met the conditions going for the SA Ballot.
• The 1st 30-day SA Ballot was announced starting from Apr 6th and closing on May 5th.
