IEEE SA Standards Board Approves 802.11D as a Standard
(June 2001)
During the meeting of the IEEE Standards Association Standards Board,
802.11d/D3.1 was approved as an amendment to the 802.11 standard.
Sponsor Recirculation Ballot Approves 802.11d/D3.1
(May 2001)
The recirculation of draft 3.1 of 802.11d (802.11d-D3.1-Pkg.pdf)
has been completed. The draft was unanimously approved. As a result,
the draft has been placed on the IEEE Standards Association Review Committee
agenda for their June meeting to be approved as an IEEE standard.
Sponsor Recirculation Ballot Begins (April 2001)
The recirculation of draft 3.1 of 802.11d (802.11d-D3.1-Pkg.pdf)
to the sponsor balloting group has begun. Changes made to draft 2.0 are
marked in the new draft included in the recirculation package.
Resolution of Comments from Sponsor Ballot (March 2001)
Task Group d met to resolve the comments received as a result of the successful
Sponsor Ballot that concluded on 1 March 2001. The draft standard was
approved by the sponsor group by a vote of 38 approve, 3 disapprove, and 1
abstain. After resolving 32 technical and 23 editorial comments, the
resolutions and new draft was circulated among the disapproving voters.
Happily, all of the disapprove voters determined that their concerns with the
draft had been addressed and have changed their votes to approve. The new
draft, 802.11d/D3, will be sent for a default sponsor recirculation
ballot. Upon successful completion of the recirculation ballot, the draft
has been conditionally approved by the 802 Executive Committee to be forwarded
to the IEEE Standards Board Review Committee for approval as a new IEEE
standard. Should there be technical comments as a result of the
recirculation ballot, Task Group d will meet during the May interim meeting in
Orlando for the purpose of resolving them.
Sponsor Ballot to Start (January 2001)
There were no meetings of Task Group d at the January 802.11 interim
meeting. Between the September and January meetings, IEEE invited
participants to the 802.11d Sponsor Ballot. In early January, the
invitation period concluded and the sponsor ballot pool was certified. The
sponsor ballot will be conducted electronically, beginning in the very near
future. It is expected that the sponsor ballot will conclude in time to
process any comments made on the draft during the March 2001 meeting. If
necessary, a recirculation ballot may be conducted after the March meeting.
Completion of the Working Group Ballot (September 2000)
The latest working group letter ballot has concluded with unanimous support. The
remaining voters that had voted to disapprove the draft have all reviewed Draft
2.0 (available
in PDF in the members private area) and have changed their votes to approve.
The IEEE standards office will be soliciting members of the sponsor ballot
pool for the purpose of conducting an electronic sponsor ballot. It is not
anticipated that the process of forming the sponsor ballot pool and the conduct
of the ballot itself will conclude in time to begin comment processing at the
November plenary in Tampa. Task Group d had no business to conduct and did
not meet during the September meeting.
Finalization of Resolutions to the Latest Working
Group Ballot (July 2000)
Task Group d met in La Jolla to resolve comments received
in response to the most recent working group letter ballot (Letter Ballot #22)
requesting the approval of the current draft of the proposed supplement to the
802.11 standard. The balloted draft, 802.11d Draft 1.9, was unanimously
approved, though there are six disapprove votes carried forward from earlier
ballots. There were 28 editorial comments
received. 25 of these comments were resolved by adopting the commenter's
suggestions, 2 comment were withdrawn by the commenter, and 1 comment was a
question that the task group answered to the commenter's satisfaction. Document
00/221 contains the collected comments and their resolutions.
The new draft of the supplement (802.11d
Draft 2, working group members only) was approved by the working group to be
forwarded to the 802 Executive Committee and sent out for a Sponsor Group letter
ballot.
Task Group d plans to resolve any comments received as a
result of the Sponsor Ballot at the September 18-22, 2000 meeting in Scottsdale,
AZ.
Resolution of
Working Group Letter Ballot Comments (May 2000)
Task Group d met in Seattle to resolve comments received in
response to the most recent working group letter ballot requesting the approval
of the current draft of the proposed supplement to the 802.11 standard.
The majority of the comments addressed editorial issues in the draft.
The commenter's suggested resolutions for these comments were accepted
and incorporated into the new version of the draft.
There were also several technical comments received.
These comments were resolved to the satisfaction of the task group and
the changes were also incorporated into the new version of the draft.
Document 00/111 contains the collected comments and their resolutions.
The new draft of the supplement (802.11d/D1.9) will be sent out to the
working group for a default recirculation ballot to ask for approval to send it
to a sponsor ballot after the July meeting.
Both the document containing the comments and their resolutions, as well
as, the new draft may be found in the documents section of the web site.
Task Group d plans to resolve any comments received during
the recirculation ballot at the July 10 - 14, 2000 meeting in La Jolla, CA and
forward the draft for a sponsor ballot.
