Subject: RE: Searchable definitions
Thank you very much for checking with the SA, Robert.
Would it be possible to re-ask them if option 1 is not acceptable at all? 😊
While I am willing to go w/ the second option if required, I feel like we will be asked by TGme whether option 1 is not allowed at all, so it might be more efficient to find that out up front.
Regards,
Youhan
--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Editors' Reflector ---Hello Youhan, Joseph, All,
I got some feedback from one of the publication editors on the proposal for searchable definitions. Unfortunately she did not answer the question on whether the first option was acceptable – just indicated a preference for one of the alternatives (putting the searchable term in the body of the definition).

Subject: Re: Question on Clause 3 style
Hello Robert,
This option "the second one" would be our preference.
access point (AP) reachability: An AP is reachable by a station (STA) if preauthentication messages can be exchanged between the STA and the target AP via the distribution system (DS). Used in the standard as AP reachability.

Hello Michelle,
In the editors meeting today we discussed making the definitions in Clause 3 searchable. The issue is that some of the terms are defined in a way that the definition does not appear in search results for the term. For example,
access point (AP) reachability: An AP is reachable by a station (STA) if preauthentication messages can be exchanged between the STA and the target AP via the distribution system (DS).
When you search for “AP reachability” the definition itself does not show up in the search results.
The proposal is to do something like:
access point (AP) reachability (AP rechability): An AP is reachable by a station (STA) if preauthentication messages can be exchanged between the STA and the target AP via the distribution system (DS).
The question we have is there any issue with this approach from IEEE SA style perspective?
We could also do something like:
access point (AP) reachability: An AP is reachable by a station (STA) if preauthentication messages can be exchanged between the STA and the target AP via the distribution system (DS). Used in the standard as AP reachability.
That is, add the searchable term to the definition portion.
Do you have any opinion or comments on this direction?
Regards,
-Robert
