[STDS-802-11-REG] 5150-5350 MHz Worldwide unlicensed band

ITU-R WRC-95 Resolutions 116 and 117 designated 5091-5250 MHz as Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) to bring broadband to the world, and protection studies for the MSS eventually resulted in worldwide restrictions on 5150-5250 MHz to be restricted to indoor operation at transmit EIRP limits no more than 10 mW/MHz.

Beginning 2014, February 1, all the world allows unlicensed devices to operate indoors with transmit EIRP limits no more than 10 mW/MHz.

This is the only 5 GHz unlicensed band in China, however by Summer 2014 we expect the 5725-5850 MHz band (licensed to operators at up to 2W EIRP) to also allow unlicensed devices to be used at no more than 25 mW EIRP.

These changes in China regulations mean that most new smartphone designs will have dual-band Wi-Fi, both 2.4 GHz and some 5 GHz band.
