First, current legacy solutions for V2X communication, e.g., ad-hoc communication over the 802.11p standard and backend-based communication cellular
networks, are not able to satisfy the quality of service (QoS) requirements of safety-critical V2X applications, particularly in dense traffic. Second, by the similarities between the requirements on V2X communication and the characteristics of direct D2D, the latter is a promising approach for implementing the former.
