Re: [STDS-802-11-TGAI] teleconference on Oct 30th, 2012

To all,

I am familiar with the process and all of the dependency issues, so do not anticipate any problems. In other words, I have gone through this before and it should be relatively easy to keep the draft up to date and aligned. As Adrian points out, the real work on maintaining alignment comes after we have an official posted draft.

Sorry to have missed the call this morning, for those not in North America who may not have heard, we had a bit of a storm here yesterday and things have been a little chaotic. I am north of New York city, in the western part of Massachusetts, so we were threatened with some nasty stuff. That plus being in the midst of a large forest where falling trees frequently cause extensive power outages, I spent most of the past few days preparing for the worst. Luckily, we were spared from the heaviest damage, only had power out for a short time, and was able to get back to normal late this morning but too late to join the call.

Regards,

Hello David and TGai members,

Some background information on setting the baseline,  FYI.

Your editor Lee (with the support of Ping as co-editor) is responsible for determining
the baseline.   He can and should be encouraged to keep the baseline reasonably up
to date.

At this stage when you don?t have a posted draft,  the work required to keep it aligned
is trivial.   So it?s just a matter of declaring the most recent versions of all the dependencies
as the starting point for any draft you create.

Later down the road,  things are very different.   Take a look at document 11-11/1149.
Changing a dependency version requires that your editors check the deltas in the that
dependency and reflect any into numbering and material quoted in your draft.   That takes work,  and
is the reason why your dependences may lag the real world.

The editors? meeting (Tuesdays 7:00am) is where this is managed,  because it involves
interactions between the active drafts.

Gabor,

In the next steps part of the agenda would it be possible to discuss the baseline for 11ai specification draft text contributions expected at the November meeting?

I note from the 802.11 project timelines page that the baselines for 11ai are 802.11-2012, 11ae, 11aa, 11ad, 11ac, 11af and 11ah. The 802.11-2012, 11ae and 11aa standards are now rolled into 11mc d0.4.

Thanks,
Dave
