[STDS-802-11-TGBE] 答复: [STDS-802-11-TGBE] 答: [STDS-802-11-TGBE] 0358r0: Multi-BSSID Operation with MLO

Hi jinjing Jiang,

I’m not sure about the specific meaning of security domain. I try to response your question. On one hand, for legacy STA, the PTK is still generated using the low MAC address (BSSID 2’s mac address) to maintain backward compatible. On the other hand, for non-AP MLD, the PTK is generated using the high MAC address, i.e. MLD SAP MAC address. Hence, the current BSSID 2 already have maintained two different key generation method.

I don’t find any info about security domain in the Spec. Could you provide some material on it?

Best wishes

The question is how a single BSS identified by BSSID2 has two security domains...

Hi Jinjing Jiang,

Thank you for your response. In my understanding, if a non-AP MLD associates with MLD 1, then use the key generated between MLD 1 and itself. If a non-AP MLD associates with MLD 2, then use the key generated between MLD 2 and itself. I don’t see the problem. Could you further explain the security issue you mentioned?

In your case, how does security work in bssid2?

Hello Abhi,

I’m not sure that whether I expressed my question clearly. My question is that: Assuming that MLD 1 is consisted of BSSID-1 and BSSID-2, and MLD 2 is consisted of BSSID-2 and BSSID-3, as shown in the below figure. Whether this case is allowed? In other words, whether the same BSSID can be belonged to different MLDs? If this case is prohibited, can you further explain why.

Best wishes
