Hi Yunbo and All,

 

Just want to add some more clarification on top of Jinjing's response.

Non-STR softAP and Non-STR regularAP are two different types of devices.

In many cases, Non-STR softAP is coupled with Non-STR non-AP.

If Non-STR non-AP is included in 11be R1, it does not make much sense to exclude Non-STR softAP from 11be R1.

As for regularAP, there seems to be an overwhelming preference to prioritize STR over Non-STR.

Combining softAP with regularAP in the SP would make it hard for this SP to gather opinions on either type of device.

I think, the common understanding in the group is that a general AP MLD will be STR in R1. Therefore, it does not make sense for such AP MLDs to operate in the constrained way as a Non-STR MLD. 

 

We also have no intention to develop for a SoftAP MLD every function that could be supported by an 11ax AP and 11be STR AP MLD. In other words, we do not plan to develop a general Non-STR AP MLD. But there is no SoftAP concept yet in IEEE spec, that is why the note is added to clarify the scope.

But I am not clear about the note part. When you say limited to soft AP, do you means the related mechanism can not be used by normal AP MLD? What is the reason, can you explain more about your intention to add this limitation?

Do you agree to define mechanisms to support the operation of a Non-STR AP MLD in R1?

Note: the mechanisms are limited to instantiate a Non-STR Non-AP MLD as a Soft AP that could utilize all its links. The exact language to govern such scope is TBD.
