[STDS-802-11-TGBE] discussion on SP1 in DCN0974r1

Hi all,

This email is sent to launch the discussion and collect feedback on the SP1 in DCN0974r1. The comments received and the answers during the teleconference on Thursday are listed below. Also, due to the time limit, there were not chance to hear comments from Payam, Young Hoon, Hanseul and other members during the teleconference. Please feel free to contact me or respond in this thread. Thank you!

1. It is fair to let non-STR MLD stop accessing channel for a while due to its capability limitation.
[LX] As shown in the problem description DCN0974r1, the fairness issue occurs because the STR MLD is able to block the channel access of the non-STR MLD all the time. The SP proposes to guarantee that non-STR MLD has chance to access the channel.

2. TXOP could be reserved to communicate with multiple users
[LX] The SP only tries to address issue in the simplest case where one STR MLD communicates with one non-STR MLD. That is, the TXOPs are reserved to communicate to the non-STR MLD.

3. TXOP level alignment impacts strongly to efficiency of the aggregation.
[LX] The TXOP level alignment does not have impact on the efficiency of the aggregation when it is used with PPDU end time alignment. It requires no extra effort to achieve TXOP level alignment when the PPDU end time alignment is also used. When the last PPDUs of the TXOPs on two links align their end time, the TXOP end times on those two links is also aligned.

4. What is the difference between SP1 in 0974 and PPDU end time alignment?
[LX] They are two independent mechanisms. During the TXOPs on multiple links, the PPDUs on multiple links could be transmitted with or without PPDU alignment. When PPDU end time alignment is applied, it does not have restriction on TXOP reservation on multiple links. SP1 in 0974 adds a restriction on TXOP reservation in the scenario of one STR AP MLD communicating with one non-STR non-AP MLD. The purpose of SP1 in 0974 is to solve the fairness issue of the channel access between STR AP MLD and non-STR non-AP MLD while the PPDU alignment is to solve the in-device coexistence interference issue.

5. Is PPDU end time alignment enough?
[LX] No. PPDU end time alignment can’t solve the problem that SP1 tries to solve because PPDU end time alignment does not have restriction on TXOP reservation.

SP1 in DCN0974r1:
Do you support to include the following in SFD?
When STR AP MLD accesses a new link for transmission to a non-STR non-AP MLD, the TXOP reservation on the new link shall not exceed any reserved TXOPs on other links for transmissions to the same non-STR non-AP MLD.
