[Po-Kai]: The answer depends on whether the frame is individually addressed, or group addressed. When it is individually addressed (see spec texts below), we will use pairwise cipher suite (CCMP/GCMP) rather than BIP. (I assume you use revme 2.0, where 12.5.3.3 points to BIP) Now, I will note that I think for CPE context, all these relevant frames in my opinion will be individually addressed.
Spec texts in 12.2.7 Requirements for management frame protection:
When management frame protection is negotiated, individually addressed robust Management frames
shall be encapsulated using the pairwise cipher suite (see 12.6.19 (Protection of robust Management frames)) and group addressed robust Management frames shall be encapsulated using the procedures defined in 11.12 (Group addressed management frame protection procedures).
Q: So information elements in the MAC header afaiu are not made "robust" (or "protected" by this procedure?
[Po-Kai]: Using CCMP/GCMP, information elements in the MAC "framebody" will be protected. MAC header does not have "information element". MAC Header fields per my understanding will be handled in a different requirement (requirement 31).
