Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBI] Question on CID 1012, EDP group epoch or group EDP epoch

Hi Antonio,

Thanks for initiating the discussions. I can provide background from my side.

I sent you an email about using EDP group epoch because:

  1. I find terms like “group epoch ID” (36.20 and 37.26)
  2. “Group epoch” used in table 9-80
  3. “Group Epoch Interval Duration field” in 10.71.2.2 EDP group operations

As a result, I have an impression that “group epoch” should be used.

However, after further search, I now understand that “group epoch ID” looks like a mistake because in 9.4.1.83 EDP Epoch Settings field, we only have group ID. “Group Epoch Interval Duration field” also looks like a mistake because I can not find “Group Epoch Interval Duration field” anywhere in the format. Hence, two of my reasonings are due to spec mistake, which need to be fixed. 2 above can be fixed as part of the comments.

Now, look at this further. I now understand that we have the following two definitions in 3.2. We also have the RSNXE bit called group EDP epoch. As a result, I will be ok now to use group EDP epoch since we have that in the definitions and RSNXE as long as you fix the two bugs that I identify above in the CID. I will also be fine to use “EDP group epoch”. My new reasoning is that we have “EDP group” in 74 instances, so “EDP group” and “group EDP epoch” do not seem to align. I understand that will be a bigger change since we already have definitions below, so I will not be strong on that.

group enhanced data privacy (EDP) epoch: [group EDP epoch] A time window in which each non-access

point (non-AP) multi-link device (MLD) of a set of non-AP MLDs applies a set of EDP parameters that is

valid for the duration of that group EDP epoch.

individual enhanced data privacy (EDP) epoch: [individual EDP epoch] A time window in which a single

non-AP MLD applies a set of EDP parameters that is valid for the duration of that individual EDP epoch.

Best,

Po-Kai

Antonio,

            EDP group epoch is great.

Kind regards

Stephen

Dear,

CID 1012 requires we add EDP in front of all (bi) groups in the specification. In the definitions we have EDP epoch, therefore the way of writing it should be group EDP epoch. Po-Kai is suggesting to use EDP group epoch instead of group EDP epoch.

I am fine with this, is there any one opposing or I would do a global change.

Thanks

Antonio
