Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBN] SP request for QoS/ECN

Hello Alfred et al,

Please be so kind as to take note of the following revision (based on offline feedback) in SP1.

--

SP1

  • Do you agree to define an optional mechanism in 802.11bn which allows for communication of relevant ECN information from IPv4/v6 header (TOS/Traffic Class fields)  to aid in QoS handling (e.g. for L4S classification) of traffic flows by the MAC layer?
    • NOTE 1 – The exact mechanism is TBD.

Referenced proposals: 24/0399r0 Proposal B & D, 24/0384r3 Proposal 1, 24/0818r4 Q3 Proposal 1,2.

 SP2:

  • Do you agree to define an optional mechanism in 802.11bn which allows the MAC layer to indicate, to higher layers at the MAC/MLME-SAP boundary, the condition of congestion experienced (at or below MAC layer) to facilitate appropriate ECN markings by upper layers for IPv4/v6 packets?
    • NOTE 1 – The exact mechanism is TBD.
    • NOTE 2 – Criteria to determine the condition of congestion experienced is left to implementation and is therefore considered to be out of scope.

Referenced proposals: 24/399r0 proposal B & C, 24/384r3 proposal 2 & 3, 24/0818r4 Q4 Approach 1 & 2

Hello Alfred,
Might I request the following (below-mentioned) two SPs to be added to the MAC queue for consideration by this group?

The interest to run the SPs was expressed during the presentation of 0818r4. SPs were revised to better reflect offline discussions w/ interested individuals (with supporting contributions).

PS: Please rest assured that the SP(s) are being requested purely with an intent to advance the topic; not as a ploy to capture a potential PoC (or any other named) position or slot. Were the SP(s) to advance, I'll happily relegate the driver-seat (for this topic) to a deserving candidate of groups' choosing.
