I don't believe the extended capabilities element is a big contributor to beacon size. Perhaps a better way to reducing medium time occupied by beacons is to transmit them at a higher rate. You get a pretty significant savings when you disable 11b and transmit them at 6 Mbps. Cheers, Mike Sent from my BlackBerry 10 smartphone on the Rogers network.

The knee jerk reaction is that there is clearly benefit/desire to collapse this, but there is an equally strong balance of backward compatibility challenges. Adrian, since youâ??ve though about this, do you have a first cut of the pros/cons, and balancing act tricks (over some timeframe) we would have to undertake, to consider this? Dear members, This is not (yet) the topic of a comment. We have an extended capabilities element, currently with 70 allocated bits. Most of these are zero, representing options that have not gained traction in the market. Iâ??m wondering if there would be interest in creating a â??compressedâ?? version of this, or a new bitmap encoded in a more efficient way for new features. What think ye?
