--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Task Group M Technical Reflector ---
Clause 10.11.9.4 paragraph 2 reads: "
To compute the IPI densities, the STA shall
measure the IPI in the specified channel at the specified channel width
as a function of time over the measurement duration when NAV is equal to 0
(when virtual CS mechanism
indicates idle channel) except during frame transmission or reception. The time resolution of the IPI measurements shall
be in microseconds." The
highlighted normative text is ambiguous and non-prescriptive. I presume
what was meant is a STA shall measure the amount of time the IPI is observed to
fall in each of the IPI bins, but that's not what it says. It states the STA
shall measure the IPI as a function of time, which is NOT required to calculate
the IP densities. An implementation only needs a threshold device and a counter
which counts TUs while the IPI exceeds that threshold. That is, a STA
doesn't need to measure the IPI. Perhaps a comment should be added to fix
this paragraph to read: "A
STA shall measure IPI in the specified channel over the specified channel width.
To compute IPI densities, the STA shall measure the amount of time, in
TUs (microseconds) over the measurement duration, during which the measured IPI
is in each IPI interval specified in Table 8-107. Time intervals during
which the NAV is not equal to 0 (when virtual CS mechanism indicates channel busy),
and during which frame transmission or reception is occurring shall not be
included." The proposed change also properly captures
the notion that the power is to be measured is the power in the entire channel,
and to clear up the misplaced modifier where the conditional clause "when
..." is associated with "measurement duration" , i.e. for
readability. Cheers, RR From: ***** IEEE
