--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Task Group M Technical Reflector ---
Hi, Mark, Given that starting point, my guess (I don’t remember, either, sorry) is that I probably objected to yet another “here’s a term that we use, but we can’t tell you, dear reader, what we mean by it, because we mean different things at different times and we won’t give you any hint as to which one it is in a given usage.” If we are really worried that the specific meaning of “network” needs to be well understood in the places where it is used (which one of the items you list is it really, in each context), then we should replace the word with the correct one of those in each usage. Mark From: Mark Rison <m.rison@xxxxxxxxxxx> --- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Task Group M Technical Reflector --- Hello, CID 7225 was marked "more work required" but the minutes don't remind me what more work I was supposed to do. Can you help? Comment: The term "network" is used a lot, but not actually defined. It might be equivalent to "BSS", or it might be equivalent to "ESS", or it might be something else Proposed change: Define the term My starting offer is: network: A set of devices that can communicate. Depending on the context, a network might be a basic service set (BSS), an extended service set (ESS), a non-802.11 local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN).
