The hand/head blockage is a real issue for mobile handsets and small mobile video cameras.  My experience testing embedded antennas for 2.4GHz and 5GHz designs could yield a 10 dB loss or more in RF energy. This is dependent upon the location of the antenna in the industrial design and the orientation of the hand(s) and head. The antenna radiation pattern is directed away from the head, to meet SARs specifications so this should be considered as well.

[RR>] That is, handset antennas are not omni, far from it, and even more so after loading by the human brain.  We saw all these issues down at 1-2GHz years ago.

Hi Minho, we can discuss then adding an additional shadow fading variable when people are standing next to each other. Then we may also thing about head/hand blockage for mobile devices.

Correct. It can be seen that most of HEW usage models especially among high density STAs deployment have 0.5~1.0 users / m2.

Maybe in many cases, devices is not likely to have LOS link to AP for those usage models.

Thanks for your introductory presentation on channel model today.

Could I ask some question on HEW outdoor channel modeling as follows?

-      Is there any mismatch problem if we simply apply the cellular-based outdoor channel models to the HEW outdoor environments, in most of which so many people are populated within a very limited area (over than 0.5 person / m^2)?

-      Even though it’s 5GHz band (not millimeter wave), I have some doubt on whether we may need to additionally define side effects such as human body blockage due to too high density of deployment or not.
