--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---
Dear TG chairs, We have 6 projects that expire at the end of this year: For one of these projects to continue past December requires that a PAR extension request be approved in the WG, EC, and by NesCom. It also requires that its 5C or CSD be re-approved in the WG and EC. There are two NesCom meetings this year after the July 802.11 session. The following are routes to approval: 1.
Ask for EC approval in the July meeting.
a.
Normally PARs are submitted to the EC 30 days prior to the session in question. However “maintenance” PARs are subject to: “At the discretion of the Sponsor Chair, PARs for
ordinary items (e.g., Maintenance PARs) and PAR changes essential to the orderly conduct of business (e.g., division of existing work items or name changes to harmonize with equivalent ISO JTC-1 work items) may be placed on the Sponsor
agenda if delivered to Sponsor members 48 hours in advance.”
b.
I interpret 48 hours as being first thing Wednesday, which means that TGs would have to approve them Mon/Tue, and I would have to supply them on Wed first thing, subject to confirmation by the WG in the Wed plenary.
c.
These could then go on either agenda. Normally there should not be an issue with an extension request, but bearing in mind the scrutiny of 802.11ah recently by IEEE-SA, NesCom might prefer to handle this at the F2F meeting in December. 2.
Ask for EC approval in the November meeting
a.
PAR extension requests would be considered by TGs & WG in the July or Sept sessions.
b.
PAR extension requests would be filed with NesCom to meet the October 17th Deadline,
subject to permission by the EC chair, and notified to the EC at that point.
c.
Request to approve the PAR extensions and confirmed 5C / CSD documents would be made to the EC in November. Any projects not receiving EC approval would be pulled from the NesCom agenda.
