DESCRIPTION;LANGUAGE=en-US:G’day all\n\nAt the IEEE 802.11 WG meeting in
Warsaw an ad hoc was authorised by the Chair to discuss the question of ho
w (and if) to answer a request from 3GPP RAN1 that future revisions of IEE
E 802.11 adopt an ED of -72dBm\, instead of the current ED of -62dBm. The
ad hoc was named during the Friday plenary and will be known as the IEEE 8
02.11 EDPD ad hoc.\n\nThe decision to form the IEEE 802.11 EDPD ad hoc was
the result of a discussion and straw poll during the mid-session plenary
 based on a summary (11-16-1263-00<https://mentor.ieee.org/802.11/dcn/16/11
 -16-1263-00-0000-what-should-802-11-wg-do-about-the-ed-related-request-fro
m-3gpp-ran1.pptx>) of a discussion in IEEE 802.19 WG earlier in the week o
f another more expansive document (19-16-0110-00<https://mentor.ieee.org/8
 02.19/dcn/16/19-16-0110-00-0000-a-discussion-of-ed-pd.pptx>).\n\nThe first
teleconference of the IEEE 802.11 EDPD ad hoc will be held on Tuesday\, 2
7 September 2016 at 5pm ET\, as approved by the IEEE 802.11 WG. As the app
ointed Chair\, I will run subsequent teleconferences weekly\, as required.
Consider this announcement to be the formal notification of subsequent te
leconferences.\n\nI will publish a proposed agenda for the first teleconfe
rence of the IEEE 802.11 EDPD ad hoc in the next couple of days. Anyone in
terested in making a presentation or providing relevant material for discu
ssion is requested to e-mail me as soon as possible. I would particularly
encourage submissions on:\n• How we might determine if ED = -72dBm
will have any ill effect on legacy deployments\, either by simulation or
experiment?\n• Will an ED = -72dBm cause any issues with plans for
IEEE 802.11ax?\n• Should IEEE 802 continue asking 3GPP RAN1 to be
more sensitive to IEE E 802.11 equipment?\n• Should IEEE 802 resp
ond to the 3GPP RAN request?\n• … and anything else useful and r
elevant\n\nI would also appreciate a volunteer to act as secretary for the
ad hoc\, at least during the first teleconference. Each volunteer will re
ceive a beverage of their choice from me at the San Antonio meeting. ☺\n
