Dear 802.11 participants, Please see below message from Paul Nickolich, 802 Chair. Best Regards, Adrian Stephens IEEE 802.11 Working Group Chair mailto: adrian.p.stephens@xxxxxxxx Phone: +1 (971) 203-2032 Phone: +447342178905 Skype: adrian_stephens -------- Forwarded Message --------
Dear EC Members, I just received the attached proposed position statement on strong encryption this morning 08FEB2018. The IEEE Internet Initiative is looking for feedback by 23 Feb, which means it is impractical to develop consensus feedback from 802, but perhaps those of you that have standards which incorporate or develop encryption techniques into your standards may have an opinion. It looks like you should provide the feedback directly to Jim Wendorf (j.wendorf@xxxxxxxx) for consideration by the Internet Initiative Ad Hoc. You may direct any questions to Jim as well. Dear Colleagues: The IEEE Internet Initiative (3I), working with a range of cybersecurity and policy experts from the IEEE Cybersecurity Initiative and the Technical Committee on Security and Privacy, has drafted a proposed IEEE Position Statement "In Support of Strong Encryption" that it plans to submit to the Global Public Policy Committee (GPPC) for review and recommendation for approval by the IEEE Board of Directors. Before submitting it to GPPC, 3I is requesting Technical Activities and other potentially interested/affected groups within IEEE review and comment on the draft statement, so to confirm its acceptability and value as an IEEE Position Statement. There are two documents associated with the statement: a draft Submittal Cover Sheet that provides some additional background and context, including who is being asked to review it, and the draft Position Statement itself. All comments and suggested revisions should be sent to Jim Wendorf (j.wendorf@xxxxxxxx <mailto:j.wendorf@xxxxxxxx> / +1 732 562 5385 <tel:(732)%20562-5385> ) by 23 February 2018, for consideration by the Internet Initiative Ad Hoc. You may direct any questions to Jim as well. Thanks for your time and attention and we look forward to receiving your input.
