--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---
All, As discussed at the March session in Chicago, I am putting a Call for Interest and volunteers to work on bringing support for YANG modeling and thereby NETCONF configuration access into 802.11. This call is looking for both leadership volunteers, and participation/contribution volunteers with interest (or their sponsor’s interest) in these topics. 802.3 and 802.1 are both already well along in their use of these models and configuration/management protocols for their suite of standards. 802.11 should begin serious investigation into these to remain consistent with these other 802 family standards. While covering all 802.11 configuration/management with YANG/NETCONF is a very large elephant to eat, we can take this in smaller chunks. The 802.11 ARC SC has been considering possible approaches, and recommends starting small with one or two high impact areas, such as 802.11k/v or Fine Timing Measurement facilities. Other options are open, also, of course, based on interest. There is background on this work in 802.1, here: http://www.ieee802.org/1/files/public/docs2017/yang-parsons-open-source-motivation-1217.pdf There is also a community of support available within 802, from the “YANGsters”: https://1.ieee802.org/yangsters/ Existing examples work can be found here: https://yangcatalog.org/; https://github.com/YangModels/yang Some additional background/status on YANGsters can be found here: http://www.ieee802.org/1/files/public/docs2018/yangsters-smansfield-status-0318-v02.pdf If anyone has interest in this topic (or has a sponsor with interest), we are looking for volunteers to kick off investigation – probably through a TIG – at the upcoming 802.11 session in Warsaw. Please let myself (Mark Hamilton, mark.hamilton2152@xxxxxxxxx) or Dorothy Stanley (dstanley1389@xxxxxxxxx) know, or otherwise make your interest known at/before the Warsaw meeting. Thanks.
