[STDS-802-11] Coexistence Workshop: call for papers!

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---

G’day IEEE 802.11 WG participants

As you will hopefully recall, the IEEE 802.11 WG is organising a Coexistence Workshop in Vienna in July 2019, in collaboration with 3GPP RAN. It will be held on Wednesday, 17 July 2019, in the afternoon and evening, coincident with, but separate from, the IEEE 802 plenary in Vienna.

The primary objective of the Coexistence Workshop is to discuss issues related to fair and efficient shared operation by IEEE 802.11ax (High Efficiency WLAN), IEEE 802.11be (Extremely High Throughput) and 3GPP NR-U (New Radio Unlicensed) in the 6Ghz band, including:

·       Sharing information on plans for use of future technology standards (particularly IEEE 802.11 and 3GPP NR-U) in the 6 GHz band

·       Assessing coexistence issues and topics related to the simultaneous use of IEEE 802.11 and 3GPP NR-U technologies in the 6 GHz band, including coexistence criteria and mechanisms

·       Discussing other related coexistence topics of interest, including deployment experience of 3GPP LAA/eLAA coexistence with IEEE 802.11ac in the 5GHz band.

Further details of the Coexistence Workshop are available here. The registration site is not yet operational but is expected to be up on about 10 April 2019.

The main purpose of this e-mail is to remind IEEE 802.11 WG about the call for proposals for papers that closes on 12 May 2019. By that time, speakers are requested to submit an outline of their proposed paper(s). It is suggested that each paper submitted is each focused on a single issue to enable more focused discussion in a workshop environment. Final versions of accepted papers are due on 1 July 2019.

There are no restrictions on paper submissions within the scope of the Workshop, and it is envisaged/hoped that all submissions will be accepted, subject to time constraints. Papers discussing actual measured deployment experience in the 5 GHz band with LAA/Wi-Fi coexistence are particularly sought. Other suggested topics include:

·       Principles of sharing

·       Practical challenges of sharing

·       Simulation results on various coexistence schemes

·       Proposed requirements for any coexistence mechanism

·       The use of ED-only vs PD/ED vs both

·       The use of 802.11 preambles or common preambles

·       Multi-channel sharing mechanisms

·       Blocking energy

·       The use of no LBT or short LBT for control signalling

·       CW adjustment mechanisms with delayed acknowledgments

·       Synchronous access proposals in U-NII-7

·

Feel free to request clarifications of the material above or send your responses to the call for papers … sooner rather than later!

Chair of IEEE 802.11 Coexistence Standing Committee
