Re: [STDS-802-11] Norway consultation on 5.1 GHz and UWB for outdoor use (6 to 8.5 GHz)

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---
Dear 802.18 members,
cc. 802.11 and 802.15 members,

It was brought to my attention that two individuals are preparing a submission to the Norway Nkom consultation.   If you are interested to work with the individuals on their response followed by sharing the draft with IEEE 802.18 to review (and consider approval on 29 September), please let me know.

Regards,
Edward

Dear 802.18 members,
cc. 802.11 and 802.15 members,

Norway Nkom has begun a consultation that asks for public opinions on the following topics:
a) Wi-Fi for drones with higher power in 5 GHz
b) Introduction of 5G on ships
c) Ultra-broadband (UWB) equipment for specific purposes outdoors
d) High resolution radars in 76-77 GHz

For item a),
- Nkom specifically proposed to allow limited outdoor use of Wi-Fi in the 5150-5250 MHz band.  In particular, Nkom proposes that outdoor use is permitted if the radio equipment is not mounted on fixed installations or on the outside of road vehicles, is part of a fixed infrastructure or has a fixed outdoor antenna.
- Nkom also proposed to open up communication with drones (UAS) with 200 mW output power in 5170-5250 MHz. The proposal is:
1) The maximum permitted radiated power is 200 mW eirp
2)  The maximum average spectral power density shall not exceed 10 mW/MHz eirp in any 1 MHz range.
3) In road vehicles and train carriages with an average attenuation of less than 12 dB, a maximum radiated power of 40 mW eirp applies.

For item c)
Nkom proposed that
1) frequencies within the frequency range 6-8.5 GHz are permitted to be used for ultrawideband (UWB) equipment for radio determination, position tracking, tracking and data collection at a fixed outdoor location or connected to a fixed outdoor antenna with updated technical requirements;
2) UWB equipment in the frequency band 6-8.5 GHz operating indoors is allowed to be used with higher power for radio determination, position tracking, tracking and data collection with updated technical requirements

The comment closing date is Friday, 14 October 2022.

If you would like IEEE 802 to submit a comment to Nkom, the internal 802.18 deadline is Thursday, 29 September 2022.

Thanks and Regards,
Edward
