Re: [STDS-802-11] FCC Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Direct-to-Device satellite connectivity

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---
Dear Pelin,

Thank you for initiating the work on the draft response. We will review the NPRM during this week's teleconference call, held on 10th September 2026. For the 802 Wireless Interim in Hawaii, we have only one session on Tuesday AM2, but we have enough agenda time to discuss this item. (I will send out a revised agenda later this week).

Regards,
Gaurav

Dear Gaurav,

Thank you for your email.

I would be happy to work on this draft response and bring it to our members' attention during the 802.18 opening plenary, provided there is time on the agenda. If you think it would be helpful, we could perhaps review the NPRM during this week's call to build familiarity before the first draft is presented.
Please let me know what works best.

Regards,
Pelin

Thank you

Dear 802.18 members,
cc. 802.11/15/19 members,

Following the FCC Open Commission Meeting yesterday (6 August 2026), the commissioners approved NPR on Direct-to-Device satellite connectivity in unlicensed spectrum. (2.4 GHz band and the 5 GHz UNII-3 band).

You can refer to the press release at:
https://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-looks-expand-d2d-satellite-connectivity-unlicensed-wireless-0

The final version of the NPR will be uploaded to the Federal Register in the near future.

Comment submission date is 60 days after the Federal Register publication. Reply comment date is 90 days after the Federal Register publication.  Once it is available on the Federal Register, we will set the internal deadline for any proposed 802 LMSC response.

Regards,
Gaurav
