[STDS-802-16-MOBILE] 802.16e / TTA Security Compatibility
Title: Message
To Jeff Mandin (802.16e Security AdHoc
Chair),
Jeff,
It has come to light that there is an issue with
the PKM version negotiation mechanism in 802.16 if we are to achieve security
compatibility with the TTA specification.
In 802.16e, new, non backwards compatible
functionality, must be associated with a new PKM version (e.g. 2) so that legacy
stations can interoperate with .16e stations, using the version negotiation
mechanism to enable any new funcitonality that is supported.
The current TTA specifcation supports only an EAP
authentication mechanism without a version negotiation.
We would like to request (through you as security
adhoc chair) that the 802.16-TTA Liasion request that the IEEE work with the TTA
to resolve this potential incompatibility between devices conformant to either
standard.
