Brian
These are my TG1 comments that went astray in the reflector somewhere. They are
primarily viewed from a TG3 perspective. Please work with Roger, Jim, Jay and
Carl to see how they can be included within this week's TG1 discussion - also
bearing in mind that I will be in the TG3 sessions and would need to know when
these are being reviewed by TG1 in order to be there. Please confirm that you
received the comments this time.

Add "Definition of Terms" sub-section, either under Chapter 1 or with / after
Chapter 4
[Reason for Edit]
Completeness. See similar section in TG3 draft FRD.

[Detailed Description of Proposed Insertion, Deletion, Change]
Change "Bandwidth", "Bandwidth Request" and "BR" to "Capacity", "throughput",
"data rate" or similar more appropriate term, throughout the document.
[Reason for Edit]
Bandwidth is defined in Hertz and refers to a range of frequencies. Capacity
can be increased / reduced by several techniques other than just bandwidth
manipulation. Although the wireline industry has effectively hijacked the term
bandwidth to mean throughput in bits / sec, a radio standard should be more
careful / precise. Any change to a standard term would need to be agreed with
ANSI, ISO/IEC and ITU.

[Detailed Description of Proposed Insertion, Deletion, Change]
Original text: "2.6 Framing and Scheduling Intervals"
Change: Add after line 39 the text "The MAC functions described in this section
is
applicable only to the TG1 PHY proposals described later in this document."
[Reason for Edit]
It is expected that TG3 will consider PHY options that are very different
from those of TG1. It is vitally important that we separate those parts of the
MAC
that are tied to the TG1 PHY from those parts that are more generally
applicable.

[Detailed Description of Proposed Insertion, Deletion, Change]
Original text: "scheduling intervals are chosen by the MAC to optimize system
performance."
Change: Change the period to comma and add a clause ", which can be up to 4
ms."
[Reason for Edit]
For clarification. The change is consistent with Section 2.6.5, which
recommends US-MAP be transmitted 250 times a second.

Original text = Figure 50.
Change: Modify Figure 50 to show the Tx/Rx gap.
[Reason for Edit]
It is an error not to show the Tx/Rx gap in Figure 50.

T
[Detailed Description of Proposed Insertion, Deletion, Change]
Original text: "2.6.6.3 Upstream Interval Definition"
Change: Change heading to "Upstream Channel Definition"
[Reason for Edit]
Channel is more general than interval. For example, in an OFDM system,
the registration and access may be on different frequency channels rather than
different time intervals in the same frequency channel. Again, this is to
benefit
TG3 which is expected to study other PHY options.
