stds-802-16: pilot-based measurements

Hello,

I have some questions about the use of downlink pilots in 802.16a-2003
for OFDMA. If anyone can offer clarifications on these, please let me
know.

1. For OFDMA Downlink, does the SS make any measurements on the received
signal strength on the pilots (e.g. for equalization/inverting the channel)?

2. If yes, are these pilot strength measurements fed back to the BS in
any form, directly or implicitly (to enable BS to get some estimate of the
channel on the different subcarriers)? If so, how and how often?
