I encountered a problem when inputing my attendance to the new
electronic attendance form. I also came up with a work around, which
may be of use to other attendees, especially those with policy-based
personal firewalls on their PCs, which will typically have been
installed by their company's IT department.
Policy based firewalls prevent access to public internet web pages
without running a VPN, and conversely only allow access to the
private 10.0.1.16 pages when the VPN in not running. The attendance
form is at 10.0.1.16, but submission of the attendance form takes the
user to the cgi-bin pages on grouper.ieee.org, and results in a Page
Not Found Error because the VPN is not running. My workaround was to
add the IP address of grouper.ieee.org (140.98.194.3) to my firewall
Static Friends List. This process will be specific for each firewall
vendor, and may need to be carried out by the user's IT department
for some companies that do not allow users to access the Friends List.
A simpler solution would be to stay within the 10.0.1.16 private
address space when pressing the Submit button. If changing this is
not possible, feel free to publish the above details on the reflector.
