Dear 802.16 People, As you know, the 802.16 revision PAR, approved on 22 March, authorizes the WG to develop a draft revision that "will consolidate IEEE Standards 802.16-2004, 802.16e-2005, 802.16-2004/Cor1-2005, and 802.16f-2005 (and possibly 802.16g and 802.16i, if completed in time), incorporating the P802.16-2004/Cor2 draft." As the first step in the process, I have been coordinating with IEEE professional staff over the past few months to develop an editorial consolidation of IEEE Standards 802.16-2004, 802.16e-2005, 802.16-2004/Cor1-2005, and 802.16f-2005. That consolidation is now complete. The official name for the PAR, following IEEE-SA conventions, is "P802.16". However, that's not a practical name, since it will apply to every revision we do. Therefore, we will label the drafts with the unofficial name "P802.16Rev2" to indicate that we are working toward the second revision of IEEE Std 802.16. (The first revision was IEEE Std 802.16-2004, following the original version IEEE Std 802.16-2001). I have created a new web page for posting P802.16Rev2 drafts: I have posted the editor's consolidation as "D0". It is no an official WG draft, since it has not been approved as a draft by the WG. The document includes a number of comments and questions inserted by our professional editor. I will soon be announcing a Call for Comments for the review of the document. Comments, in Commentary format, will be considered by the Maintenance Task Group at Session #49. The review serves only to address editorial questions regarding the accuracy of the merger of the standards. In parallel, a review team, chaired by Itzik Kitroser, will be reviewing the document in detail, with a volunteer assigned to review every part of the consolidation. Their comments will also be considered at Session #49. I'm happy to say that Joe Schumacher has agreed to serve as Chief Technical Editor of the P802.16Rev2 project. Roger Begin forwarded message:
