[STDS-802-16] IEEE 802.16 Operator ID (OpID) Registry Now Open
I'm happy to say that IEEE Registration Authority has opened the IEEE
802.16 Operator ID (OpID) Registry:

IEEERegistrationAuthority_BOPID.html
According to IEEE Std 802.16, "The Base Station ID is a 48-bit long
field identifying the BS. The Base Station ID shall be programmable.
The most significant 24 bits shall be used as the operator ID."
According to the draft amendment P802.16g/D9 (of which IEEE-SA
approval is anticipated on June 9), "The 24-bit Operator ID shall be
assigned as an IEEE 802.16 Operator ID by the IEEE Registration
Authority. The IEEE Registration Authority shall be the sole
authorized number space administrator for this function."
The IEEE 802.16 Operator ID Registry web site documents the use of
the IEEE 802.16 Operator ID and explains how to obtain one. Please
take a look at the on-line tutorial and FAQ for important details.
While the web site has a few remaining editorial errors to correct,
it appears to be functional. If you apply for an ID, I would
appreciate an update on your experience (once complete) so that I may
feed back information to the IEEE Registration Authority.
Discussion on this issue dates back well over a year. I appreciate
the efforts of the many 802.16 participants who helped to get it
launched. In particular, we owe an acknowledgment to Scott Probasco,
who, as chair of the 802.16 Operator ID Ad Hoc for the past year,
organized and led the development and review of the documentation
presented to the IEEE Registration Authority Committee.
Regards,
Roger
