[STDS-802-16] P802.16Rev2/D0a is available

P802.16Rev2/D0a is now posted:

This version show the markups with respect to D0. The changes were developed
in the Maintenance TG at Session #49, per the Call for Comments noted below.
The comment database is:

Per the Maintenance TG plans at Session #49:
we are not calling for comments on D0a. Instead, we are awaiting D0b, which
will include the material from P802.16-2004/Cor2/D4. The plan from the
Portland meeting was to complete this integration by 30 June and then open
a call for editorial comments.

This note is a Call for Comments regarding P802.16Rev2/D0:

Please consider the following points:

*Comments are limited to those that address the accuracy of the merger of the underlying standards in the consolidation. Comments should be marked as "Technical" if they have technical implications. Otherwise, they should be marked as "Editorial".

*Please review the editor's comments on the consolidation leading to P802.16Rev2/D0:
to understand the key editorial issues that arose in the consolidation, and to understand the markings the editor has used in the consolidation to highlight questions and remarks.

*Please review the editor's charts reflecting the clause, figure, table, and equation renumbering that took place as a result of the consolidation:
Note that the spreadsheet includes four worksheets.

*Prepare comments in Commentary 2 (.cmtb) format. Identify the ballot ID as "26". [LB#26 has not yet begun, but this work is pre-LB#26; the administration is a little easier if we start using that number now.]

*Upload comments to <http://lb26.wirelessman.org>.

*Comments will be considered by the Maintenance Task Group at Session #49.

*The deadline is 2 May 2007 AOE:

Contact me with any questions.

Dear 802.16 People,

As you know, the 802.16 revision PAR, approved on 22 March, authorizes the WG to develop a draft revision that "will consolidate IEEE Standards 802.16-2004, 802.16e-2005, 802.16-2004/Cor1-2005, and 802.16f-2005 (and possibly 802.16g and 802.16i, if completed in time), incorporating the P802.16-2004/Cor2 draft."

As the first step in the process, I have been coordinating with IEEE professional staff over the past few months to develop an editorial consolidation of IEEE Standards 802.16-2004, 802.16e-2005, 802.16-2004/Cor1-2005, and 802.16f-2005. That consolidation is now complete.

The official name for the PAR, following IEEE-SA conventions, is "P802.16". However, that's not a practical name, since it will apply to every revision we do. Therefore, we will label the drafts with the unofficial name "P802.16Rev2" to indicate that we are working toward the second revision of IEEE Std 802.16. (The first revision was IEEE Std 802.16-2004, following the original version IEEE Std 802.16-2001).

I have created a new web page for posting P802.16Rev2 drafts:

I have posted the editor's consolidation as "D0". It is no an official WG draft, since it has not been approved as a draft by the WG. The document includes a number of comments and questions inserted by our professional editor.

I will soon be announcing a Call for Comments for the review of the document. Comments, in Commentary format, will be considered by the Maintenance Task Group at Session #49. The review serves only to address editorial questions regarding the accuracy of the merger of the standards.

In parallel, a review team, chaired by Itzik Kitroser, will be reviewing the document in detail, with a volunteer assigned to review every part of the consolidation. Their comments will also be considered at Session #49.

I'm happy to say that Joe Schumacher has agreed to serve as Chief Technical Editor of the P802.16Rev2 project.

Roger

Re: P802.16 - Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Part 16: Air Interface for Broadband Wireless Access Systems

Dear Paul:

I am pleased to inform you that on 22 March 2007 the IEEE-SA Standards Board approved the above referenced project until 31 December 2011. A copy of the file can be found on our website at http://standards.ieee.org/board/nes/projects/802-16.pdf.

Now that your project has been approved, please forward a roster of participants involved in the development of this project. This request is in accordance with the IEEE-SA Operations Manual, Clause 5.1.2i under Duties of the Sponsor which states:

"Submit annually to the IEEE Standards Department an electronic roster of individuals participating on standards projects"

For your convenience, an Excel spreadsheet for your use has been posted on our website at http://standards.ieee.org/guides/par/roster.xls. Please forward this list to me via e-mail at s.hampton@ieee.org no later than 20 June 2007.

Please visit our website, IEEE Standards Development Online (http://standards.ieee.org/resources/development/index.html), for tools, forms and training to assist you in the standards development process. Also, we strongly recommend that a copy of your draft be sent to this office for review prior to the final vote by the working group to allow for a quick review by editorial staff before sponsor balloting begins.

If you should have any further questions, please contact me at +1 732 562 6003 or by email at s.hampton@ieee.org.

Sincerely,

Sherry Hampton
