- Summary: The new IEEE 802.16 WG Study Group on the WirelessMAN Radio Interface in Heterogeneous Networks (HetNet Study Group) met for the first time. Input contributions were received from individuals affiliated with Consensii LLC, ETRI, Nokia Siemens Networks, and WiMAX Forum. Based on the inputs and discussions, the Study Group proceeded in two directions:
Solicitation of Input Contributions: First SG Meeting
The Het Study Group is soliciting input contributions toward its meeting at IEEE 802.16's Session #79 of 14-17 May 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Please submit contributions by 9 May, or earlier if possible. Follow the IEEE 802.16 Document Submission Instructions using the File Code "Shet".

Procedures
- IEEE 802 Policies & Procedures
- Highlights: "It is expected that the work effort to develop a PAR will originate in an ECSG or WGSG... A study group is expected to submit a PAR to the EC for consideration by the 2nd plenary session after its initiation... The decision of whether to utilize an existing WG, or to establish a new WG to carry out recommended work items shall be made by the EC with due consideration of advice from the Study Group."
- IEEE 802 Operations Manual
- Highlights: "Study Groups may elect officers other than the Chair, if necessary, and will follow the general operating procedures for WGs specified in the IEEE 802 LMSC WG P&P. Because of the limited time duration of a Study Group, no letter ballots are permitted... Any person attending a Study Group meeting may vote on all motions (including recommending approval of a PAR). A vote is carried by 75% of those present and voting 'Approve' or 'Disapprove'."
