Subject: CBP-SG 4 January telecon announcement

Hi,

The Contention-Based Protocol Study Group is holding teleconferences, next on Wednesday 4 January:

Date: 4 January 2006
Time: 1 PM Eastern time
Duration: 1 hour
Phone # 1-866-902-7861 (toll-free outside 408 area code)
International: +1-408-902-7861
Meeting ID: 87654321

Please send petere@ieee.org an email if you may attend and did not attend the previous teleconference, so I can get the right size conference bridge, and spell your name correctly in the minutes ;-)

   As IEEE SA NesCom will act on PARs in March, http://standards.ieee.org/board/nes/nescalendar.pdf, the CBP SG continues in the development of Requirements and Objectives for the CBP Task Group to act on. As directed by 802 ExCom, notice of each CBP-SG session is being sent to all 802 chairs for them to distribute as they see fit.

The previous session discussed candidate Requirements and Objectives (05/1039), and a process for the Task Group to select Requirements and Objectives.

If you have a submission or presentation you would like to give, please correctly format it and post on the 802.11 document server and send me an email. If you would volunteer to act as Recording Secretary and take minutes, please send me an email, so I can send you a template with the attendees information and the Guidelines for secretaries of 802.11(tm) groups. Directions for accessing the 802.11 document server follow at the end of this announcement

Preliminary 4 January Agenda:

1) Roll call

§ 90.7 Definitions.
* * * * *
Contention-based protocol. A protocol that allows multiple users to share the same spectrum by defining the events that must occur when two or more transmitters attempt to simultaneously access the same channel and establishing rules by which a transmitter provides reasonable opportunities for other transmitters to operate. Such a protocol may consist of procedures for initiating new transmissions, procedures for determining the state of the channel (available or unavailable), and procedures for managing retransmissions in the event of a busy channel.
