Re: [802.19] Comments on Draft PAR

Hi, Monisha,

I don’t want to be nitpicking here, but just to avoid giving folks issues to point at in the PAR, I wanted to make sure that ECMA is indeed a “standards body,” because it advertises itself as an “industry association.”  I suppose the same may be asked of the white space database group.  Can someone comment how the definition of “standard” is meant to be understood?

Thanks

Alex

Monisha,

Thanks for your valuable input.  What would be very helpful is a contribution describing the group, giving a little background and explaining the reasons for including it.  That way, even though you are not present, the group can feel confident it is doing the right thing.  When you post it, just send out an email telling everyone it is there.  If I can help with this please let me know.

Thanks,

Mark

Here is what I would propose be included in Section 7.1 of the draft PAR as a description of the TV White Space standardization in Ecma International. I will not be attending the Hawaii meeting, but please do let me know if you need more information.

·         Explanation: Ecma International TC48-TG1is developing PHY-MAC and coexistence protocols for wireless networks in the Television White Spaces. See http://www.ecma-international.org/memento/TC48-TG1.htm for more details.

·         Sponsor Organization: Ecma International (http://www.ecma-international.org ) and CogNeA (http://www.cognea.org )

·         Project/Standard Number: TC48-TG1

·         Project/Standard Date: Expected release of first edition by Ecma: Dec 2009. Expected adoption by ISO/IEC: Oct. 2010

·         Project/Standard Title: Wireless Communications using Television White Spaces (TVWS).

A minor correction: under “Similar Standards” , it should read “802.22, new project in 802.11 and Ecma” not Cognea.

Subject: Comments on Draft PAR

All,

On last week’s conference call Mark Cummings suggested that if anyone has comments on the PAR to prepare a contribution.

So I looked over the PAR and put together a few comments and questions.  I have posted that document on Mentor,

We can discuss these and any other comments or questions on the Tuesday conference call.

Steve
