Re: [802.19] Request for suggestions to make 19-15-0063 better!

G’day Steve

I have uploaded the latest version that covers most comments sent to me, including yours below – see https://mentor.ieee.org/802.19/dcn/15/19-15-0063-06-0000-proposal-for-ieee-802-submission-to-3gpp.pptx

Andrew

General

·          SS> There are a number of 802.11 acronyms used in this presentation.  It might be good to write out the full name the first time the acronym is used.

I think I have caught most of them. Yell if you spot anymore

Slide 3

·       SS>  Do we have a reference for the “evidence based approach”?

Do we need one? It is sort of obvious that we should make decisions based on evidence

·        SS> What is meant by a “collaborative processes for all stakeholders to have a real say in LAA coexistence mechanisms”?

I have changes text to “IEEE 802 requests 3GPP develop collaborative processes for all stakeholders to have a voice in LAA coexistence mechanisms”. Further explanation of this point is on slides 9-13

Slide 10

·        SS> This slide is quite confrontational, which will most likely result in a negative reaction from members of 3GPP.  I think this could be reworded to be more positive, and hence make it more constructive.

I have write the whole “aside” section. See slides 9-13

Slide 11

·        We should provide some specific suggestions here.  They did just invite us to the workshop, so if we want something specific beyond that we should tell them.

Now covered in slides 12-13

Slide 15

·        Is the “defer” period analogous to SIFS, DIFS, etc.?

Now slide 17. I have added a reference to “a following slide” (slide 17) where this is answered

·        How do you recommend LAA reserve the channel so that Wi-Fi is aware of the reservation?  Is this Wi-Fi CTS?

Now slide 17. Great question. It is not addressed here because there is only so much you can put on one slide. The question/answer is alluded to on slides 37-38. It would be a great topic for collaboration

·        ss> Here a picture would be worth at least 100 words, maybe 1000 words.

Now slide 17. My artistic ability is not up to the challenge. I could not think of sufficiently illustrative pictures. However, I cleaned up and reduced the text

Slide 16

·        ss> I assume you mean that energy detection is performed during each slot in which the device is not transmitting.

Now slide 18. Yes. That should be implicit by  the way the slot is defined

Slide 17

·        ss> As I understand it the use of different lengths of defer periods in Wi-Fi is primarily for prioritization, is this really useful for coexistence between LAA and Wi-Fi?

Now slide 19. Yes, if LAA wants to do prioritization. We have a question about that on slide 27

Slide 18

·        ss> A reference would be useful here

Added references

Slide 38

·        ss> A reference would be useful here

I will need to look. Does anyone else have easy access to some document numbers?

Andrew,

I just got a chance to review your latest set of slides.  I prepared some comments and questions for the call.

G'day all

As promised the latest version is at https://mentor.ieee.org/802.19/dcn/15/19-15-0063-04-0000-proposal-for-ieee-802-submission-to-3gpp.pptx

Comments welcome ... and thanks to all those that have provided comments so far. The comments have made the document much better! :)

It is still a little long but it is structured in a way that means it can be presented in a time that represents the time available

Dear Andrew-- I appreciate your creating great presentation material for the upcoming LAA workshop.

Regarding my comment in the previous teleconference on TxOP duration in slide p34, please refer to the Section 4.3.2 in TR36.889-d00. Burst transmission duration (=TxOP) in Japanese regulation is limited < 4.0ms, to enable co-existance among several systems in 5GHz band. It looks "4ms" is the most severe rule compared with other countries.

That's why 3GPP simulates co-ex using TxOP < 4ms.  Then, I would suggst change "5ms" to "4ms" in slide P34. Please let me know if there's any concern.

Best Regards

Akira
