On 8 December 2022, UK Ofcom began a
statutory consultation, entitled Notice of proposal to make the Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 2023, that seeks public opinion on whether the proposed Regulations correctly implement the following policy decisions [NOTE - I list only the policy decisions that are within scope of work of IEEE 802 LMSC]:
[1] the decision in April 2021 to remove the existing licence exemption for higher power wideband data transmission systems in the 57-71 GHz band;
[2] the decision in September 2022 that:
i) provide an additional 20 MHz of spectrum for safety-related ITS;
ii) liberalise the use of 5150-5250 MHz for Wireless Access Systems including RLAN, for example Wi-Fi;
iii) make some technical and minor editorial changes to SRD applications in the 870/915 MHz bands; and
iv) correct two errors in IR 2030 UK Interface Requirements 2030 Licence Exempt Short Range Devices (April 2021).

If you would like IEEE 802 to consider a submission, the internal deadline for IEEE 802.18 to consider any submission is 3pm ET, Thursday, 5 January 2023.
