Dear 802.18 members,
cc 802.11, 802.15, and 802.19 members,
On 26 April 2023, Taiwan Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) began the following two consultations that seek public opinions on the lower 6 GHz and the upper 6 GHz frequency bands, respectively.
Consultation 1)
Draft amendment of “Table of Radio Frequency Allocations of the Republic of China
Background:
Considering that major countries in the world, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, allow part or all of the 6 GHz frequency band for unlicensed low-power wireless information transmission equipment, such as Wi-Fi 6E, the administration proposed to revise Item 3, Article 52 of the Telecommunications Management Law such that 5945 MHz to 6425 MHz is allowed for indoors/outdoors low power wireless information transmission without causing harmful interference to existing authorized communications and without protection from any interference caused by existing authorized communications.

Consultation 2)
Draft amendment of “Radio Frequency Supply Plan”
Background:
In aligning with the plan to allow 5945 MHz to 6425MHz for use by U-NII equipment, the administration proposed to revise Item 3, Article 52 of the Telecommunications Management Law such that: 6425 MHz to 7125MHz is allowed for experimental network trials, for example, mobile communications, technology research and development, product development and application services of unlicensed low-power wireless information transmission; a further review on the use of 6425 MHz to 7125 MHz is conducted after the development trend of international communication technology and the demand for service use on this frequency band are certain

For both consultations, the comment submission deadline is 26 June 2023. If you would like IEEE 802 LMSC to respond to either or both of the consultations, please bring a contribution to IEEE 802.18 for review and approval no later than 3:00pm ET, Thursday, 8 June 2023.
Since the texts of the consultations are written in traditional Chinese, I also prepared an unofficial translation of both consultations that are available at:
