On 28 August 2023,
Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (
SPDDI) began a consultation asking for inputs regarding the enforcement of obligations for Specific Absorption Rate (
SAR) testing of telecommunication equipment as a certification requirement.
As referred to in the consultation, the Directorate General of SDPPI wants to ensure that telecommunication equipment used (at least 20 cm from the body, and has a transmit power of more than 20 mW) is safe and does not have a negative impact on public health. The obligation to test for SAR as a certification requirement will apply to the following devices:
- Cell phone;
- Handheld Computers;
- Tablet Computers;
- Virtual Reality Devices ;
- Laptops;
- Wearable devices (if the transmit power is > 20mW), for example: Smart Watches, body-mounted industrial devices, etc.
