[802.19] South Africa's consultation on upper 6 GHz band (Draft Radio Frequency Migration Plan)

Dear 802.18 participants,
cc. 802.11, 802.15, 802.19 participants,

On 8 April 2024, South Africa's Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) began a consultation on its draft radio frequency migration plan.  This document is over 300 pages and its objective is to  bring South Africa's National Radio Frequency Plan in line with the latest ITU Radio Regulations and the outcome of the World Radio Conference in 2023.

Of particular interest to us may be the 6425 MHz to 7125 MHz band.  As referred to page 65 of the document it said:

The World Radiocommunications Conference 2023 allocated the frequency band 6 425-7 125 MHz to the Mobile on a Primary basis and Identified for the implementation of the terrestrial component of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT). The Fixed links (upper 6 GHz in accordance with ITU-R Rec. F.384) in the frequency band 6425 – 7110 MHz are to be Migrated to a new destination band.

A Feasibility Study is to be conducted in order to clear the frequency band.

The Radio Frequency Spectrum Assignment Plan is to be developed for the implementation of the Terrestrial Component of International Mobile Telecommunications.
