Minutes

This weeks meeting focused on a detailed schedule for completing the project by the start of the November meeting along with System Gain (4.1.1, rev 8), Link Adaptation and Power Control (4.2.2, rev 8), and the definition of AI.

1)      All of the persons on the call agreed with the schedule that was published with the agenda and to the concept that we should work to close all of the sections for that week by the end the conference call on Thursday. So by 10/16/03 the following topics are targeted for closure:

i.      System Architecture (section 3.1 in rev 8)
ii.     MWBA System Reference Architecture (section 3.1.1 in rev 8)
iii.    System Gain (Section 4.1.1 in rev 8)
iv.     Spectral Efficiency   (Section 4.1.2 in rev 8)
v.      Frequency Reuse (Section 4.1.3 in rev 8)
vi.     Support for Different Block Assignments (Section 4.1.4)
vii.    Support for the use of Repeaters (section 4.1.13)

2)      For the System Gain section (4.1.1, rev 8) it was decided to drop any specific dB requirement and instead use the following text.

“The 802.20 air interface specification is required to provide appropriate means to enable future implementations of 802.20 to maximize their system gain as defined below. This can be achieved through a combination of factors including receiver threshold for specific modulation schemes at specified bit error probability. It is expected that numerical values for system gain and related parameters be provided in the air interface evaluation criteria process.

The
system gain is defined as the difference, in dB, between transmitter power output at the base station and the receiver threshold (sensitivity) at the mobile terminal.”

The above text should be used as the current text in e-mails going forward.

3)      Link Adaptation and Power Control (4.2.2, rev 8)
a.      There were no objections to using the current text in rev. 8 so the status has been changed from open to closed.

4)      Definition of AI

This discussion boils down to what is the scope of AI within the context of the requirements document. The persons on the call agreed that there should be text placed in Appendix A stating that the AI only covers layer 1 and layer 2 for the purposes of reference document.  John Humbert agreed to place the proposed text on the reflector and to review the current document to make sure that the term AI is used consistently.
