Re: stds-80220-requirements: Handoff discussion

Title: Handoff discussion
John et al,
The following are my proposals for the definitions of  the terms active handoff and  idle handoff.

Active HandoffThe transfer of a user's connection from one Base Station to another (can be the same or different cell) while maintaining or disrupting shortly the ongoing services with the base station.

Idle HandoffThe transfer of a user's connection from one Base Station to another (can be the same or different cell) while being the idle state or during the idle period of the burst service with the base station.

Best Regards,

Hao

Subject: stds-80220-requirements: Handoff discussion

Form the discussion in Albuquerque here are the approved definitions:

Handoff - The act of switching the communications of a mobile station from one cell (or sector) to another cell (or sector), or between radio channels in the same cell (or sector).

o       Intra-Technology Handoff
n       A handoff between two cells employing the same air interface technology.
o       Inter-Technology Handoff
n       A handoff between two cells employing different air interface technologies (e.g. between 802.11 and 802.20 cells).

Need input on a definition for the following terms

Please post responses to the reflector
