Happy and prosperous new year Dennis. Pls see in line. Peretz Feder From: Hello, Peretz.
I hope your new year is happy and prosperous. I apologize for
being cryptic, especially since I wasn’t making a deep or a constructive point.
To be clear now, my assumption is that even a single radio mobile node will
need to choose between multiple handoff candidates based on some “link
quality”. I don’t know what the SG will determine a good measure of link
quality is, or even how many dimensions it will have, but I would expect there
to be one. I assume you mean at least one criteria
for the link quality. I make no claim
about the handoff utility of 802.11k. All I meant to point out was that the
stated design philosophy of 802.11k was to use information that “was already
there” but not uniformly accessible. As work in the SG progresses, they may
need link information that is not in the current LINK SAP. 802.11K Link SAP or 802.21 SAP? As far as I know, RSSI signal information
is already available in the 802.11 SAP. Besides this link info is applicable to
both DR and SR, so not sure the required link info for the new 802.21c SR spec will
be any different than what is already captured in 802.21-2009. By that philosophy,
a mechanism that satisfied those needs but required, say, new timers in an
existing protocol would be a “bad idea”, no matter how valuable it might be to
an application. Adding new accessors would presumably be OK. I agree that adding new requirements on the
802.11k protocol for SR will be an additional risk, but again I believe the exiting
DR aspects for link quality are probably sufficient for the SR spec. as well. --Dennis From: Hello Dennis: Sorry but I am afraid I lost you w.r.t
your line of thinking. Are you saying 802.11k is a good model for
a single-radio HO? What are the single radio aspects of
802.11k? Appreciate some more background pls, Happy new year, Peretz Feder From: Junghoon, Congratulations on
your chair appointment. I wish you the best of luck in your new endeavor. Just a thought, and
I apologize if I am out of touch, but should link quality information be
needed, perhaps the 802.11k model would prove useful. Recognizing the enduring
achievements of Mr. Paine, it may be more palatable to the EC than other
approaches have been. Best regards, --Dennis From: Dear All, The IEE-SA has approved the 802.21c PAR. I am pleased to appoint Junghoon Jee (ETRI) as the Chair of
this new task group. Anthony Chan (Huawei) has kindly agreed to assist Junghoon
as Vice Chair for this group. This group will start its activities from Jan-2010 (San
Diego) meeting. This is also a call for contribution for 802.21c for the Jan
meeting. If you are interested in presenting: - Use cases - Requirements - Architectural and Design considerations - Initial Proposals or anything else related to Single Radio
Handovers Please notify Junghoon Jee. The intent for Jan meeting is to establish requirements and
guidelines for a subsequent formal Call for Proposals. Best Regards -Vivek |
