If you were on the call and aren't listed, please send me a note.
Notes:
- Reviewed some history that led to current methods. Some based on capabilities of test equipment available at the time. many shared with other standard e.g. FibreChannel. Agreed that there is room for improvement in bj though
previous projects enabled shipping products.
- Action Item: Mike Li will contact test equipment reps to get their view and suggestions.
- Questions regarding “do we really want to go through a possibly major change?” Even if consensus is there, setting all the details can take a long time, take AC cap as an example.
- Presentations say something is broken and needs to be fixed.
- Success at 10G might not be enough to ship products at 100G.
- We must do new work for PAM4 anyway.
- Current specification uses methods are spread over many clauses, training how to measure and reviewing is painful. Reducing "obfuscation" would be good.
- DDJ measurement is well defined.
- Specifications should predict if the thing is going to work or not. Debugging why it doesn’t work is out of scope.
- One test that does everything is preferred.
Next meeting planned for next Wednesday, same time. If anyone has contributions to make please send me a note.
