Task Force Participants,
The IEEE P802.3bj Task Force will be meeting during the IEEE 802 plenary session in Geneva, Switzerland starting Tuesday, July 16 through Thursday, July 18. Registration and hotel information can be found via the following link.
The agenda for the meeting will be to respond to comments received during the Working Group recirculation ballot on IEEE P802.3bj/D2.1. The ballot announcement has been included at the end of this message for your reference. You may also refer to this link.
Voting members of the IEEE 802.3 Working Group are reminded to submit their ballots if they have not done so already. The ballot is scheduled to close Thursday, June 27.
Requests for presentation time may be submitted to support a particular suggested remedy or proposed response to ballot comments. Presentations unrelated to ballot comments may be considered following the completion of comment resolution and if time permits. Presentations should not exceed 20 minutes in duration. Additional time may be granted if time is available and the extended duration is deemed appropriate by the Task Force chair.
Requests for presentation time shall be made to me via e-mail at adam.healey@xxxxxxx by July 5. The presenter shall send a soft-copy of the presentation in PDF format to me via e-mail at adam.healey@xxxxxxx by July 9. Please ensure that requests for presentation time or submissions of presentation material are not accompanied by restrictive notices. Any e-mail that includes restrictive notices will be refused and the presentation request or material will not be acknowledged.
All individuals submitting presentations should review the Procedures for Presenters which may be found at the following link.
I ask presenters to review their presentation material to verify that they have followed the guidelines. As a point of emphasis, the 'Document Information' fields of the PDF file must be completed as follows to support the search tool used by the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group web site.

-----Ballot announcement-----
Dear Colleagues,
This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot on the amendment IEEE P802.3bj 100 Gb/s Operation Over Backplanes and Copper Cables. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 22nd March 2013.
Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.
BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3bj/D2.1 and IEEE P802.3bj/D2.0 and the unsatisfied negative comments from the initial ballot.
BALLOT OPEN:
Thursday 13th June 2013
BALLOT CLOSE:
Thursday 27th June 2013 23:59 AOE
The Project Authorization Request for this amendment is posted at <http://www.ieee802.org/3/bj/P802.3bj_1212.pdf> and includes the following:
TITLE:
IEEE Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 100 Gb/s Operation Over Backplanes and Copper Cables
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
The scope of this project is to specify additions to and appropriate modifications of IEEE Std 802.3 to add 100 Gb/s 4 lane Physical Layer (PHY) specifications and management parameters for operation on backplanes and twinaxial copper cables, and specify optional Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) for 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s operation over backplanes and copper cables.
NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
Rapid growth of server, network, and internet traffic is driving the need for higher data rates over backplanes and high density, low cost twinaxial copper cables.
- IEEE Std 802.3 does not currently support 100Gb/s operation on backplane media.
- There is a market need for a lower cost, lower power, and higher density solution for twinaxial copper cables than 100GBASE-CR10.
Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.

ER = Editorial Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)
T = Technical
TR = Technical Required (a binding comment that is part of a DISAPPROVE vote, therefore only appropriate for an IEEE 802.3 voting member)
1. Prepare your comments in one of the following two ways:
a. You are STRONGLY REQUESTED to use the comment tool at the URL:
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/filemaker/Generic_Commenting_Tool.zip>
To use the tool, extract all components into a folder and do not move any component from that folder as this will cause the executable to not work correctly. The tool is:
Comment_Tool_Generic_Solution.exe
b. To submit comments in text (ASCII) form, please use the form below. This will make it possible for the editor to properly record and track all submissions. Make as many copies of the template as necessary and submit as an ASCII text file or as part of your e-mail.
PLEASE NOTE: The ASCII method involves a manual transcription, hence you are recommended to check your comments to ensure accurate transcription when the comment file is made available. Please use the comment tool above if possible.
